What Inspires Me

It’s endless. Every time the sun creates a mosaic of colors when it shines through the leaves. The bold shapes created by shadows dancing on the ground. Water foaming as it kisses the shore and retreats. This world never stops surprising me with its beauty.

When I find inspiration for a painting I oftentimes am not looking. Sometimes I am driving down the congested expressway and see the galore of wildflowers on the shoulder. Unexpectedly delightful. Other times I seek beauty. On my evening walk I will hear a robin singing his song, in my attempt to find him I look up in the tree and see the perfect composition - intricate branches framing the swaying leaves.

Most importantly I am inspired by color. Blue shadows, orange light, yellow flowers, green grass, purple mountains, red leaves. It’s delicious. As a result, my palette is vivid and looks like frosting. Eye candy. This is why I never experience artist block, there is always too much to paint, too much color to explore! Over the years I have developed a style that resonates with me, although ever evolving, it gives me the direction needed to start my process. The colors I use bring me so much happiness and challenge me to keep exploring the possibilities. The joy and confidence that my style gives me makes it possible to paint any landscape or floral.

The earth breathes beauty and if we only open ourselves to see it, we would be in constant awe. My hope is that my paintings convey that feeling, that they reignite the flame of passion for the outdoors.
